Invitation to the Workshop on Refugees’ welfare and mobility, a global south perspective

The workshop is organized by the Department of Geography (NTNU) in conjunction with Ruralis - Institute for Rural and Regional Research. The aim of the workshop is to provide key insights on policy and practice initiatives and share lessons with regard to refugee welfare.

Uganda is among the top three refugee hosting countries in the world and leading in Africa. It has an estimated 1.4 million refugees coming from South Sudan, DR Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia, among others.  More than 1800 refugees arrive in Uganda daily.

The guest speakers are from the Office of the Prime Minister, Refugees Department, Uganda and The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).  These people engage with refugee issues on a daily basis. Some of the aspects to be covered include:

  • Experiences of implementation of refugee policy initiatives from a practitioners’ perspective;
  • Current livelihood strategies and interventions for Refugees and host communities;
  • Emerging opportunities and constraints in refugee management.
