Demystifying culture in the context of sustainability
What does culture mean? What can theories of culture offer to support sustainability transitions? How does practice theory differ from the cultures framework? Janet Stephenson draws from her new book Culture and Sustainability to situate culture as a critically important set of concepts that can help with sustainability endeavours in research, policy and direct action. She identifies nine approaches to culture, each of which has distinct implications for exploring sustainability questions. Across these approaches, a common set of concepts can be identified which form the basis of the cultures framework.
