H.M. The King of Norway has appointed Professor Reidar Almås Knight 1 Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav. It is conferred as a reward for distinguished services rendered to the country and mankind. This is given for his effort and commitment in rural sociology.
Reidar was presented with the decoration by the County Governor Kåre Gjønnes at a ceremony organised by the Centre for Rural Research (CRR) on 31 March.
Reidar Almås is a professor of rural sociology and regional policy at the university (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. He has made ??a major contribution as a researcher and in institution building, and has made a significant contribution to rural sociology in Norway. He was the initiator of the establishment of Centre for Rural Research (CRR) in Trondheim. After he stepped down as general director in 2007 he holds a position as senior advisor at CRR in addition to his professorship. Almås has a broad international commitment, and is currently the President of the International Rural Sociology Association (IRSA).
At CRR we are very proud of this decoration of Reidar and we are grateful for what he has done for rural sociology and CRR.
