She has a PhD in human geography from NTNU and previously trained as a spatial planner at NMBU. She has worked extensively with various interests related to land and natural resources and environmental and agricultural policy in a Norwegian and international context. Land use dilemmas, conservation and rights, business development, and renewable energy, in inland and coastal areas are some of the keywords for her research. Current and recent research projects are related to the blue economy, climate change and the opportunities for local communities along the coast (the EU project EmpowerUs, the Research Council-funded Blue Places), and social acceptance of renewable energy development (the Research Council-funded Civic Renewables), and the situation of S\u00e0mi reindeer herding and the opportunities for improving planning processes related to development projects in reindeer herding Sami areas (Justice first!, funded by the Canadian research program NFRI). Other research interests include food security and preparedness.
