Hoffman received his PhD in Development Sociology from Cornell University and spent two years as Visiting Assistant Professor of Food Systems at New York University before returning to Norway as a visiting researcher at the Institute in 2014.\u00a0 Hoffman\u2019s work spans three substantive areas of interest \u2013 agriculture and food systems; property rights and natural resource management; and community development \u2013 all of which are united by a common theoretical interest: the problems of collective action inherent to public goods provision in landscapes fragmented by diffuse private ownership. His research examines institutions that address these problems, from public planning processes to arrangements between private landowners. He is currently involved in projects related to wildlife, hunting and outfield management, with pending projects on farm scale and sustainable intensification.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Matthew Hoffman was a Fulbright Scholar at RURALIS until July of 2017.
