The project aims to develop knowledge that supports more sustainable and equitable mineral governance, and to improve understanding of the political and economic drivers behind the current push for increased extraction.<\/p>\n<p>While mineral extraction can generate economic value and strengthen resource security, it often causes significant environmental impacts and local conflicts. URGENTMINE examines three selected mining projects \u2013 the Fen Complex in Telemark, Nussir in Finnmark and Helleland in Rogaland \u2013 which represent different types of challenges related to environmental impacts, land-use and local participation.<\/p>\n<p>The project takes an interdisciplinary approach, combining perspectives from the social sciences, humanities and planning studies. This provides a comprehensive understanding of how mineral extraction interacts with climate policy, environmental governance, Indigenous rights and regional development.<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge generated by URGENTMINE will support policymakers, industry and local communities in making informed decisions about mineral extraction.
