The multiethnic community: Exclusion or inclusion of immigrants? – The multiethnic community: Exclusion or inclusion of immigrants?
The project highlights the international and transnational dimensions through the study of international migration to rural districts. In the context of increased migration to rural districts we will study the impact of changing demography on local conditions, such as housing and labour markets, as well as civil society. Moreover, the project will study how processes of social inclusion and exclusion caused by migration affect central welfare arenas, and contribute to explain the development of multiethnic social cohesion in rural communities. We will stress the importance of policy in key policy fields influencing settlement and mobility patterns as well as processes of multiethnic inclusion and exclusion locally. These policy fields (policies for housing, immigration, integration and development of the districts) will frame the study.
