Self-sufficiency degree
In the 2025 agricultural negotiations, the contracting parties agreed to prioritize a study that examines methods for calculating the degree of self-sufficiency in Norway and a number of other countries. A good knowledge base related to the calculation methodology for the degree of self-sufficiency, not only in Norway, will be important in implementing such a strategy.
The goal of the project is to calculate the degree of self-sufficiency for the EU as a whole, our neighboring countries individually, as well as Switzerland, the USA, Japan and South Korea. The degree of self-sufficiency will be calculated based on data from FAO that is comparable between countries, but has its own challenges. In addition, national methods for calculating the degree of self-sufficiency for Germany, Switzerland and other countries are being compiled.
