Isabelle Hugøy
Isabelle completed her PhD in Social Anthropology at the University of Bergen in 2025. Her doctoral thesis comparatively explores soil regeneration efforts by farmers in Norway and Costa Rica in the face of socio-economic, environmental and climatic vulnerabilities. Her comparative expertise is based in long-term ethnographic fieldwork in Norway and internationally,
Currently, Hugøy works on the following interdisciplinary projects: “Pathways to preparedness” explores socioecological resilience and civil preparedness in Norway. “Karbonmat” develops sustainable business models for soil carbon sequestration in Norway. “SolarFood” seeks to develop inclusive business models for solar food drying in the Himalaya region.
Hugøy also has been involved in research projects on topics related to corporate social responsibility, state-ownership in energy corporations, and the unequal distribution of urban resources. In addition, she is experienced in research dissemination, peer review, and teaching—including supervision and examination at UiB and NTNU.
