From regional relevance to transnational value: how regional food systems can boost resilience and self-sufficiency in Nordic and Baltic countries (RegioFoodS)
Food systems are constantly changing. They are shaped by people, nature, technology, and culture. RegioFoodS has a broad approach to food systems and aims to understand and strengthen these in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The project is a collaboration between researchers and public and private actors in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden. Ruralis is leading one of the work packages.
The project will:
- Map and compare seven regional food systems using indicators and vulnerability analyses. In Norway, Trøndelag has been selected.
- Identify key actors and involve them in regional working groups.
- Follow three selected food products from production to waste in each region.
- Assess how resilient the systems are in the long term and highlight possible measures for improvement.
- Develop future scenarios towards 2050 and prepare strategic plans for each region.
- Establish a Nordic-Baltic observatory for food system resilience.
- Strengthen communication and cooperation with other relevant initiatives.
RegioFoodS also contributes with new knowledge, data, and methods for measuring long-term resilience at multiple levels – from regional to transnational.
