Johan Fredrik Rye

Senior Researcher - Dr.polit. (Sociology)

Johan Fredrik Rye’s research interests are migration and mobility. His doctoral dissertation (sociology) discussed rural-to-urban migration from a Bourdieusian class perspective. Rye is currently working on research projects analysing two other forms of mobility that are having an impact on the contemporary Norwegian countryside: The influx of migrant workers into Norwegian agriculture; and urban Norwegians’ use of rural second homes as an example of urban-to-rural ‘part-time migration’. Rye also holds a possition as Associate Professor at the Dept. of Sociology and Political Science at Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
