R-08/01 The gender of agriculture

This report is a collection of articles that has been published over a period of several years. The purpose of collecting the articles is to emphasise their connected themes, theories, and findings. The main theme is gender constructions in agriculture. Particular concern is with stability and change, and the ways in which femininity and masculinity are multiple and varied. Taking conceptions of traditionality as well as expectations of gender equality as points of departure, this problematic is studied through various inroads such as everyday negotiations and practices, and through ‘external’ matters such as technology, organisations, and the agricultural media. The study may be regarded as an exploration into the ways in which late-modernity makes its marks on the genders of agriculture.
