Karoline Daugstad is a human geographer with a particular interest in landscape studies. Her research explores landscape as symbol, representation, and ideology; and the tension between commercial use and protection in landscape policies and management. A specific focus of interest is landscape and cultural heritage as an asset in tourism, and related debates on authenticity. Her comparative approach to landscape and landscape management is applied to study areas in Norway, Northern Spain and Austria.
