Mariann Villa joined RURALIS in 1990. The topics of rural images and im-migration to rural areas have constituted a long-standing focus of her research, and the main findings from this work are published in her doctoral thesis (2005). Her research also has been on local cultural life and festival, and today she works with two studies; one on in-migrants to rural communities and one on local schools and their meaning to local communities.
