Marit S. Haugen was employed by Ruralis until March 2020 and is now retired.

Marit S. Haugen has a doctorate (dr.polit.) in sociology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. She is a senior researcher at RURALIS in Trondheim. Her research focuses on gender issues, work and life quality, work and gender identity, images of the rural and rural tourism. She has published in international journals and books in the area of gender issues in agriculture and rural communities.
