Research Manager/Senior Researcher - PhD (Sociology)

Maja Farstad has a PhD in sociology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Her research centres primarily around micro-level perspectives, decisions, and practices within fields such as farming, local community issues, and local government management. Much of her recent work relates to the development toward a more sustainable society (e.g. climate change mitigation, bioeconomic transition), with emphasis on both barriers and enablers, contextual and behavioural conditions. Dr. Farstad is also responsible for carrying out Ruralis’ national local community survey. Her 2015 PhD dissertation dealt with the relationship between second home owners and host communities, mainly focusing on moral considerations related to second home owners’ presence in and influence on the host community.
